From the Archives of CineasteIn celebration of its 40th Anniversary, the editors present a special opportunity to lift the lid on Cineaste’s archives and take a first-hand glimpse at the magazine’s origins, its evolution, and some of the highlights of its first forty years.First and foremost, this is a rare opportunity to come face to face with the rarest of the rare-birds, Cineaste’s very first issues, represented by a group of editorials and articles rescued from the deepest, dustiest depths of the magazine’s archives. Discussed by Robert Sklar in his revealing study of Cineaste’s early history (featured in the 40th Anniversary issue of the print-edition), several of these articles are reproduced here in their entirety. By making these pieces available, along with a selection of articles, reviews and interviews taken from throughout Cineaste’s history, all with ties to pieces appearing in the current, 40th Anniversary issue, it is our hope that readers will be inspired to take a step from Cineaste’s present into its rich past, and from this past into its ever-rewarding present. |
